 Actress Jayne Mansfield decorated her famous Hollywood mansion, the "Pink Palace", without buying any furniture.  Instead, she wrote to furniture and building suppliers asking for free samples, telling them they could brag that their furniture was in her outrageous home.  She received over $150,000 ($1,259,538 in 2014 dollars) in free merchandise. 

Unfortunately, the mansion, located at 10100 Sunset Blvd., was demolished in 2002.
